A.M. VOLUME 3 by Vezun

E-mail Print PDF
From www.vezun.com, this third volume has a beautiful cover, with great production quality, on simply luxurious feeling paper. However, I cracked that terrific portal open to find the TOC a mess. It needs to be justified left or right, even centered, to avoid the amoeba-shaped mess left behind, with some text wrapping and some not, each line a wildly different length, with no clearly identifiable line breaks. Out on typo patrol I went, and noticed “grafitti” instead of “graffiti,”...

Shiot Crock Sixteen on sale now.

It is not my intention to use my Poopsheet blog to promote my own books but since this book is an anthology including several of the great cartoonists that have been reviewed here I thought this would be fair game. What follows is the (sort of) press release.

Hey pals. So, like I edited an anthology of minicomic/alt/indie/underground comics/comix/non-moving-picture stories and personally, I think it's fantastic. You should go buy several copies. Shiot Crock is a series of comics anthologies...

THE ALIEN ARTZINE #14 by The Alien

E-mail Print PDF
www.myspace.com/theoriginalalien
“The Alien,” aka: Jesse Rivard, has an offering that’s not a comic, and barely a ‘zine, with regular 8.5x11 sheets simply stapled flat together with no form of binding. It’s an eclectic melange of notes manually stapled to pages, random quotes, blurry images, and poor spacing choices, rarely a complete sentence, riddled with capitalization inconsistencies, misspellings, and other assorted typos. It is rife with them. Hold on, let me find some of my...

THE SIGNIFIERS #1 by Michael Neno

E-mail Print PDF
www.nenoworld.com
Writer/Artist Michael Neno is a Xeric Grant winner for a previous work entitled Reactionary Tales. This time out, his 48 page B&W project definitely feels like an underground version of Joe Casey and Tom Scioli’s Godland over at Image Comics, itself a riff on cosmic Silver Age Kirbyisms. Fan’s of Scioli’s own book Myth of 8-Opus should really seek this out. I can’t stress the polished feel of the book enough, complete with a “Media Kit,” in the form of a...

DANNY DUTCH by David King

E-mail Print PDF
Hailing from www.sparkplugcomicbooks.com and www.reliablecomics.com at $5.50, David King’s 2008 book immediately reverberates with a retro aesthetic reminiscent of the Sunday strips of decades past. You can almost imagine Charlie Brown as the grown up, worrisome, working class stiff inhabiting the non-sequitur strips fueled by seemingly casual observations. Even the color palette of the book seems to be designed to evoke the familiar browns and yellows, sets of friends, and neighborhood...
