Pittsburgh 2011 Fall Shows - PGH Zine Fair and PIX 1 Year, 10 Months ago Karma: 0
I've talked about these a little bit in my 2011 shows thread, but here's some more info:

Pittsburgh Zine Fair
pghzinefair.com/
Thu Sept 1, 5-10 PM
@ AIR on the Northside www.artistsimageresource.org/
It's the first year for this show. In 2009 and 2010 we had the Pittsburgh Small Press Fest, which was a great idea but poorly organized both times. This should be better. I'm pretty sure that this show isn't accepting anymore exhibitors at this point, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't come and hang out anyway! There's gonna be music, free food, raffles, and a ton of different zines and minicomics.

PIX - Pittsburgh Indie Comics Expo
www.eventbrite.com/event/2049697701/
Sat-Sun October 8-9
@ Guardian Storage 6th Floor, 2389 Liberty Avenue 15222
This is the second year for PIX. Last year, it had a great vibe and I'm hoping this year is even better. It's in a pretty central location in the city, a few blocks from downtown with easy parking. The Eventbrite link up there is for exhibitor registration, and as of right now, there should still be plenty of tables left. It's super cheap, too!!!

I've emailed the zinefair several times since you mentioned it...never got a response.

I called (A.I.R.) Artist Image Resources...they don't have machines to print 8 1/2 X 11 photocopies. Office Depot and now Office Max has refused to print my minis :( I'm heading to Oakland and seeing if Kinko's will print my HAHHAH - THE BLOOD JOURNALS #3.

Maybe I'll try the Indie Comix Expo this year

That sucks they won't print it!!! If you have a USB flash drive or even an external drive, Kinko's has self-serve machines that read USB devices. The machines print for the same price, and no employees have to look at your work. I dunno how many have those machines yet, but I've been using the one at Penn Circle in East Lib.

As for the Zine Fair, if I remember correctly, the exhibitor space filled up about three weeks to a month ago.

I print on heavy, 8 1/2 X 11, colored card stock...so I always have to involve an employee. I also have the pages cut in half which is another employee based function. I'm always happy to get a location to print an issue or two before someone starts bitching and I loss my print privledges. It's a shame that Artist Image Resources doesn't have photocopy equipment or an artist-friendly partner site which does.

This time Office Max claims the denial is due to copright issues since I print art which is submitted by other people.
