The Scaffold series of comics from Graham & Eisenhower presents a kind of alt-mythology sci-fi story about three different groups operating in an abstract social construct. At times, it’s perhaps more concerned with construction technique during the act of actual “comics-making” and experimenting with the mechanics of the medium (the configuration of pages, etc.) than the actual reading experience and outright storytelling, but it still remains one of the most inventive things I’ve ever seen in print. The creators craft a wholly original environment, and while it’s something your mind wants to envision as a short film, it only works in print, proof again why comics are such a vibrant and necessary medium. Grade A-.
